Behaviour Support Practitioner (BSP)
A Behaviour Support Practitioner (BSP) helps people live safer, more independent and happier lives by understanding and reducing behaviours that might cause harm or make things harder at home, school, or in the community.
BSPs work closely with the person, their family, and support team to create strategies that suit their individual needs.
What do BSPs do?
-
Check how someone is going in their daily life
-
Find out what behaviours are causing problems and why
-
Look for patterns and triggers that lead to those behaviours
-
Help people understand and follow NDIS rules about Restrictive Practices
-
Write Behaviour Support Plans for families and support teams
-
Teach positive ways to manage behaviour
-
Support skill-building in areas like communication, confidence, and wellbeing
All of this is done following strict NDIS guidelines to make sure the support is safe, respectful, and based on evidence. The goal is to make sure every person feels heard, valued, and supported.
