Behaviour Support Practitioners (BSPs) work with children, young people, and adults to improve quality of life by understanding and reducing behaviours of concern and minimising the use of restrictive practices. They collaborate with the person and their support network to explore why behaviours occur and develop behaviour support plans with positive, practical strategies that build skills, confidence, and wellbeing.
At Independent Kids and Adults, our Behaviour Support Practitioners provide support for NDIS participants across the age span. BSPs work closely with families, carers, support workers, and other professionals to ensure strategies are used consistently across home, school, work, and community settings.
Our Services
-
Preliminary Behaviour Assessments – for individuals who do not yet have Behaviour Support funding. This assessment helps us understand presenting behaviours of concern, identify any safety or support needs, and determine whether Behaviour Support is required. Following the assessment, we provide clear recommendations about whether BSP funding should be requested and what level of support may be suitable.
-
Ongoing Behaviour Support – for individuals with BSP funding who require regular support. This includes developing interim and comprehensive Behaviour Support Plans, guiding the implementation of proactive strategies, supporting teams to reduce restrictive practices, providing training and coaching to support networks, and monitoring progress over time across home, school, work, and community environments.
What We Help With

Implementing proactive, positive strategies – developing and guiding the use of preventative supports that reduce the likelihood of behaviours occurring.
