Therapy Assistants (TAs) work under the guidance and supervision of qualified practitioners to support people of all ages in building meaningful skills for everyday life. Using an individualised and evidence-based therapy plan, TAs help clients practice skills, build confidence, and apply strategies across real world environments such as the home, school, clinic, and community.

Therapy Assistants play an important role in providing consistent, practical support that complements therapy delivered by Occupational Therapists, Behaviour Support Practitioners, and other allied health professionals. Their work focuses on turning goals into everyday routines, building independence, and helping clients participate more fully in their environments.

At Independent Kids and Adults, our Therapy Assistants support children, adolescents, and adults. Services may be funded through NDIS Capacity Building – Improved Daily Living, or in some cases through Behaviour Support plans depending on individual needs. Therapy assistants can also work with privately-funded clients.

Our Services

  • Individualised skill‑building sessions – supporting clients to practice therapy goals through structured activities, routines, and guided participation in meaningful tasks at home, school, clinic, or in the community.

  • Dyad and small‑group sessions – building social, communication, and play skills through shared activities with one or more peers.

  • Monitoring progress and communicating with supervising practitioners – providing observational feedback to the supervising therapist through regular meetings and collaboration to ensure strategies remain effective, safe, and aligned with the client’s goals.

What We Help With

  • Increasing the effectiveness of therapeutic intervention by offering practical and consistent hands‑on support that helps clients turn therapists’ recommendations into everyday habits.

  • Enabling increased intensity of therapeutic intervention within your allocated therapy budget.

  • Supporting consistency across environments – helping families, carers, support workers, educators, and employers use strategies the same way in all settings.

  • Building the confidence and capability of the support network by modelling strategies and providing guided practice and coaching. TAs support families, carers, and the broader support team to use therapeutic approaches consistently across home, school, and community settings.
