Anita Sargent
Hi, my name is Anita,

I started working at Independent Kids on a casual basis as a therapy assistant in August 2019. I have since become permanent at Independent kids. I had previously worked in the hospitality industry for eight years, completing my cooking apprenticeship in 2016.

I then left my full time job as a chef to study another field of work, aged care. I completed my certificate III in Individual support (ageing, home and community) in 2018 with TasTafe. After completing this I landed a job as a disability support worker, working in group homes and in the community. Working within this field as a support worker, I have gained knowledge working with children and adults with ASD and other additional needs. I enjoy helping people and helping them become more independent.

I also love seeing people achieve their goals. During my time working with Independent kids, I have gained a real interest for self-regulation strategies, zones of regulation and social thinking. I love being part of the IKOT team and I am looking forward to expanding my knowledge and skills further and to study Occupational Therapy in the near future.

When I am not working my husband and I enjoy the outdoors with our children. My family mean a lot to me, I have three brothers and one sister. My sister has additional needs and I have helped my Mum support her needs throughout her life.
